AQA - A Level
Ever wondered how society came to be the way it is today? How your identity
shapes how others see you? Or why some groups are more likely to commit crimes
than others? Sociology helps you make sense of the world around you.
It explores the cultural and identity issues that affect us all, providing insight into
the structures and institutions that shape our lives. You’ll learn how to investigate
evidence, think critically and build persuasive arguments.
This subject is highly relevant to everyday life and offers a gateway to a wide range
of exciting careers in fields such as law, journalism, social work, education and
public policy.
What you will learn:
• Explore key sociological themes such as culture, identity, socialisation and
inequality through topics like families, education, crime and the media.
• Understand how institutions like the family, education system and criminal
justice system influence individuals and groups in contemporary UK society.
• Examine major sociological theories, including Marxism, Feminism and
Functionalism and apply them to real-world issues and debates.
• Develop critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating evidence, identifying
bias and constructing well-reasoned arguments.
• Gain valuable research skills by learning about different sociological methods,
interpreting data and assessing the strengths and limitations of various
approaches.

This two year course comprises
of three exams:

Paper 2: Topics in Sociology - 2

Spanish
Edexcel - A Level
A Level Spanish develops your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing,
while deepening your understanding of the culture, politics and society of Spanishspeaking countries.
The course is stimulating and rewarding, encouraging independent research and
critical thinking through the study of current issues, literature and film.
This course is ideal for students who enjoy languages, culture and international
perspectives and is excellent preparation for further study or careers in languages,
international relations, business, education and more.
Course Topics:
• Society & Culture – Modern Spanish society, family, education and the world of
work.
• Art, Music & Politics – Cultural life in the Spanish-speaking world, including
music, film and political life.
• Immigration & Multiculturalism – Social integration, immigration policy and
diversity in Spain.
• History & Change – Franco’s dictatorship and Spain’s transition to democracy.
• Literature & Film – Study one literary work or film in each year.
• Independent Research Project (IRP) – A personal research project on a topic of
your choice, presented in the speaking exam.
